Surya Prakash

Born in 1940, Surya Prakash trained with eminent artist Ramkumar. He held a BFA from Jawaharlal College of Fine Arts & Architecture, Hyderabad, and served as a member-commissioner for the fifth and eleventh Indian Triennials, and as a jury member for many national and state art exhibitions.

He captured the heavenliness of native landscapes in various hues focusing on the landscapes and forest-scapes sensitively and consistently. Each and every work appears to record different shades of the beauty of nature that lies around him- as if an act of homage and an expression of gratitude.

His artistic career spanned more than four decades, and has been marked by several solo and group exhibitions held both within India as well as in Poland, Germany, Iran, Czechoslovakia, Russia, Hungary, the United Kingdom, Syria, France, and the United States. His work has found place in numerous forums including the India Triennale and the Paris Biennale.

The recipient of the National Award and gold medals from the Andhra Pradesh Lalit Kala Academy and the Hyderabad Art Society, Surya Prakash was honoured with the title "Kala Vibhushan" by the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society in New Delhi.

This artist’s paintings have found a home in several museums, corporate houses, banks, institutions and in other private and public collections in India and overseas.

The artist passed away on May 22, 2019.
