Gogi Saroj Pal

Born in 1945 in the small town of Neoli in Uttar Pradesh, Gogi was educated at the College of Art in Vanasthali, Rajasthan as well as the College of Art in Lucknow. Her creative outpourings are a result of a search for cultural identity and a reference point to the times we live in. Gogi's paintings are a mirror held up to society, showing the disparity in relationships between the sexes and are designed to exhibit the vicissitudes of a woman's life.

Gogi Saroj Pal began teaching in 1970 as a lecturer at the Women's Polytechnic in New Delhi. She eventually returned to her postgraduate alma mater, College of Art, New Delhi where she taught for a year in 1975-76. She also lectured at the art Department of Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi in 1979- 80 and 1982-83.

Over the years she has had nearly 30 solo shows. Her works form a part of major museum collections in Japan, Amsterdam and Poland. Among the honours she received, have been the Sanskriti Award in 1980, a fellowship to the Lalit Kala Akademi in 1981-82, a junior fellowship from the Department of Culture, Government of India in 1986-88 and the National Award by the Lalit Kala Akademi in 1990.
